About Us

In a shady corner of glorious Dover Beach, behind a row of tall coconut palms, is a historical building that once housed a gun battery at a time when cannons protected this coastline from invading ships.

It’s been thoughtfully and carefully remodelled by our family into four spacious and very comfortable three-bedroom apartments with cool Caribbean colours, fresh white-washed furniture and original coral stone walls.  

Opened in January 2020, this apartment conversion is a new venture for us. Our primary business is the Best of Barbados Gift Shops, founded in 1975 by my parents Jill and Jimmy Walker, whose vision was to open a store that sold things made or designed in Barbados.

Today, in our five locations, we feature the art of three generations of our family - Jill Walker, Sue Trew and Holly Trew - and our art can be found throughout Turtles Nest and on some of the kitchen and dining accessories.

Turtles Nest has the perfect location right on the beach. The long, wide stretch of white sand and gorgeous turquoise sea is fabulous for swimming – and jumping in the waves – and is also popular with turtles that swim and nest here.

It’s location on the quiet end of St. Lawrence Gap, in the heart of the South Coast, means it’s within walking distance to a great selection of good restaurants catering to all budgets and tastes. If you’d like to dine in, each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and there is a mini mart just a minutes walk away.
